Naomi

[CW: Gore]

You will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science. You will remember that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.

On the unswept tiles of a once-holy floor there lie some bodies. Though insects swarm above milky eyes and sunken cheeks and though the hot air steams with the stench of death nothing but the breeze dares to make contact. Even the air churns, billowing through gaps left by rusted hinges that no longer swing shut as though refreshing itself. The wind-chimes sound continuously; the air glitters with bells. Soon enough the rot will be complete, some of the bodies will have eaten themselves and some eaten by insects who will concede at last that there is no feast remaining and desert.

For now some of the flesh is sickly and some is not. When it is gone the skeletons will be indiscernible.
