Intentionality

A subfaith of Bausana

A train ticket
Sails on the breath of its creator,
Transcending itself.

Intentionality is the belief that beauty comes through purpose, and a thing is beautiful if (and only if) its creator designed it to be so. As such, most of the focus of intentionality is on human creations and artworks, though some also believe in a deity as the ultimate Creator (aligning more with the path of naturalism). Followers of the Time Being are found most frequently on this path, along with many artists. The rise of abstract art in the last century provoked a debate over how far intent alone can give something beauty, the infamous example being an exhibit which displayed the world-famous painting 'The Stranger' by Yevich alongside a discarded plastic bottle titled 'Untitled'.

The influence of art upon followers of intentionality carries through to their methods of finding beauty. A common practice is automatic drawing – the diviner will close their eyes and focus on their goal, allowing subconscious processes to guide the pen and fulfil that intent. The path of the pen will indicate in some way a route towards the desired goal. Understanding the patterns requires a precise knowledge of not only the goal, but the diviner's direction and reasons for achieving it. For this reason, self-reflection to fully discern one's own intent is also a large part of this path, with the parables providing useful tools to aid in introspection.

Today

The general sentiment of followers of intentionality is that the End is simply a terrible tragedy – without motivation or reason. Some see it as their duty to try and restore beauty to the world through art, forming travelling theatre troupes or bands. Others are more focused on recovering the lost beauty of the old world, though after 28 years of disaster, the remnants are thin on the ground. A small number do believe in an intention behind the End, especially believers in the Fourth Time-Maker, and welcome the new world.
